Sky of Independence

Written 7/5/2021

July 4th, more commonly known as, the 4th of July, Independence Day, is usually celebrated with big booms; as fireworks light up the pitch black night sky, turning the emptiness to an emotional roller coaster show. My 4th of July may have not been as colorful and joyful as the other July 4ths have been, but it was peaceful.

The night sky shows anticipation leading up to a slight glare and peep of red, white, and blue fireworks. The trees buried the light I was longing to see. But it was fine. However the sound was good enough. I could hear the loud explosion of the fireworks and the crackle of the sparks, as the light they made crept through my transparent window blinds.

I spent my night laying on my bed, if you can call it one, listening to lo-fi before I went to sleep. I wasn’t disappointed, I knew some couldn’t even experience the sound of a firework, so I wasn’t about to give a fit. As I drifted away after my music session, I could still hear the birds flapping away from the commotion and hear my neighbors frolic as they lit sparklers and fireworks.

...and so I floated away, I awakened to the sounds of birds…

The start of another day.

The night flew by in what felt like minutes ending up being hours.
